LA Metro Transportation Career Academy Program Internship- Jordyn Belle Jackson

This summer marked the beginning of my internship with the LA Metro Transportation Career Academy Program (TCAP).

This summer program offers 180 selected interns a unique opportunity to explore transportation careers and apply classroom knowledge at the nation’s second-largest public transportation agency.

Over the next seven weeks, I will help develop a project to present to Metro which aims to enhance their services.

On the first day, we reviewed policies, learned best practices for customer service, and discussed the specifics of our purpose. I am excited to see what we will accomplish by our commencement on August 2nd and the positive change we can create.

Bold Journey Magazine: Meet Jordyn Jackson

When Bold Journey Magazine reached out to interview me, I took advantage of the opportunity to inspire other young change-makers. In this article, I shared the origin of Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement and SOAR Jewels. I provided advice to those who want to become community and business leaders at a young age and explained the importance of developing a growth mindset. Three pillars that have consistently led me to the path of success are openness, patience, and organization. Managing my non-profit with my extracurriculars has been a challenge I have had to overcome. While running a socially responsible jewelry business, I have had to become extremely organized when managing inventory, pricing, packaging, and attending boutiques.

Through Soaring Samaritans and SOAR Jewels, I have learned many valuable lessons on how to be a successful business owner at a young age. The lessons and hurdles I have been exposed to shape who I am today, and I am excited to have been given the platform to share them with you.

Marshall Women’s Leadership Board Newsletter

At the beginning of the school year I found the Marshall Women’s Leadership Board (MWLB), a selective all-female club through USC’s Marshall School of Business focused on female empowerment, equity in business, and enhancing member’s networking, leadership, and professional skills.

Over the last few months of being a part of the MWLB, I have made lifelong friends and found a supportive group of women who inspire me to pursue my goals in business. This month, my work with my charity, Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement was featured in the newsletter. I am grateful to be able to share our work to inspire others. I look forward to the people and causes we will advance throughout the next four years.

Women’s Leadership Awards Recognition

I am honored to have been selected for the Women’s Leadership Award for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. I am the first 18-year-old in the history of this organization to be recognized and I am humbled to help young girls feel confident they can make a difference when they might feel they are not old enough. I am excited to continue uplifting other young women through Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement, SOAR Jewels, and BizSense 4 Kids.

Istituto Provinciale per I’Infanzia in Italy

We had a moving day at Istituto Provinciale per I’Infanzia, a foster home in Italy. The language barrier is always an element we find fun in the challenge to figure out how to overcome. We work as a team and do research to learn ways. For example, we used an online translator and converted all of our BizSense 4 Kids financial literacy workbooks into Italian. It was a great experience to see how close Italian is to Spanish which we speak more fluently.

We brought supplies and taught the children living in this foster home how to make SOAR bracelets. While beading we shared how to start a business with simple items. One boy had his business already. He sells anything he is done using like books, markers and items within his environment. We learned from him new ideas. We brought all weather clothes, books, and of course soccer balls. The kids went crazy with excitement as every person in the room, including their caretakers have never beaded in their lives. They enjoyed the special unpoppable balls we gifted them as well.

Soaring Samaritan Youth Movement’s Tiny Home

With the help of our community and SOAR Jewels sales, we were able to raise over $3,000 to sponsor a Hope of the Valley Tiny Home. Our Tiny Home cabin provides shelter, meals, mental health, and transitional services to those who are experiencing homelessness. Each 64 sq. ft. home has two beds and is equipped with air-conditioning, windows, a desk and a front door.

This is a cause close to our hearts and we are excited to share that people have moved into our home. Please click here to learn more about Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement’s Tiny Home.

San Fernando Valley Business Journal Women’s Leadership Awards

What an excitement it is to have been named a finalist for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal Women’s Leadership Awards. I was the only 18-year-old to be recognized and I am rewarded in knowing this can inspire other young girls to make a difference even if they feel they are not old enough or don’t know where to start. I cannot wait to meet the other women nominated and learn how to open opportunities for women to take on leadership roles, mentorship, and balance work/life. I am excited to implement these new lessons into uplifting other young women through Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement and SOAR Jewels.

Zoological and Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility

Organizations that touch our hearts around the world range from human causes to animal rights. We felt the importance to help this zoological and wildlife rehabilitation center as we received a request for food, and aid to help the animals with their various challenges and conditions. Our support furthers their cause to rescue animals experiencing lifelong health issues with the medication and treatment needed.

Due to COVID, interactions with outside helpers were limited. However, we were able to help clean their habitats, feed them, and play with the animals for stimulation for them.

Thank you to everyone who supports us to help soar aid and uplift people and animals.

King Jesus Ministry

We visited one of the largest Hispanic Christian Churches in the United States, King Jesus Ministry which felt extra special as nearly 20,000 people gathered for Easter Sunday.

We marveled at the melting pot of people the church attracts and helps.

We are grateful to act globally, working to empower marginalized voices. We are especially thankful to give back to those of our Hispanic background.

San Fernando Valley Business Journal Women’s Council 2021 Award Nominee – Taylor Bay Gaitan Jackson

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal is proud to present our Women’s Council Awards.
At this special annual presentation, top businesswomen in the Valley area will be honored for their achievements. The event is filled with inspiration and recognition as we honor women who have made a difference throughout the San Fernando, Conejo, Santa Clarita, Simi and Antelope Valley area. Read it HERE.

“At 16 year’s old, Taylor Bay Jackson is co-vice president with her sister Jordyn of One World Play Project’s program to promote positive play. Jackson has run Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement since she started it at 10 years old. She owns a jewelry line with Jordyn called SOAR Jewels where proceeds go toward impactful programs that she created to teach business skills, life skills, and healthy outlets. Jackson brings soccer balls to kids living in challenging life conditions to remind them of their teachings, bond, and ability to soar forward. She and her sister have developed the first child run charity in the history of three Los Angeles schools to bring community service work hours to the school campus. She has won the President’s Volunteer Service Award four times for over 100 hours of time each year dedicated to the community.”

Keck School Of Medicine Of USC: A Love Of Soccer Leads To Donation Of 2,400 Masks -Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement/Masks For Medics LA

The sisters behind the Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement, a local nonprofit that provides children aid and social activism opportunities, quickly turned their support to healthcare workers during the onset of the Coronavirus crisis. Taylor and Jordyn Jackson established Masks for Medics LA and used their entrepreneurial skills to source and donate 2,400 masks to area clinics, including Keck Medicine of USC.

Co-founder, Taylor, 16, said, “I wasn’t sure how much of an impact we could have, but it’s been so great to have such an effect.” Her sister, Jordyn, 10, said “We wanted to give back.”

A soccer fanatic, Taylor has attended the USC Women’s Soccer camp since she was 11, earning the nickname the “OG,” by the coaches. Her sister Jordyn has attended the camp since she was 5. The USC Women’s Soccer program has helped the girls by uniting through philanthropy at home games.

Nearly seven years ago, the sisters started a charity to teach entrepreneurial skills by creating numerous opportunities for foster children and various youth living under difficult circumstances. Taylor & Jordyn have mobilized the community to become agents of change by sharing their passion for soccer and donating indestructible soccer balls made by One World Play Project to children around the world. One World Play Project was impressed by their initiative and began sponsoring Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement with hundreds of balls on their first shipment. The balls last 20 years, don’t require a pump and have motivational messages written on them, such as “Be kind,” “Never give up,” and “Follow your dreams.”

“When all the balls arrived in our living room, we thought we might be in a little over our heads at first,” Taylor said. “They were so generous.”

The sisters travel to foster homes and underserved communities around the world to help children, teach and deliver their soccer balls for lasting impact. They were scheduled to travel to a foster home in Florida during Spring Break, but the trip was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. They switched gears and jumped into action by finding a local way to meet an urgent need by giving back to health care workers. Taylor’s passion for helping doctors and nurses in need of protection from virus transmission was intensified because of the excellent care she received during her heart surgery when she was 12.

The sisters considered donating fabric masks to hospitals but learned that fabric cannot be sanitized, so they started selling handmade fabric masks from a local seamstress to raise money to buy surgical and N95 masks. In two weeks, they raised enough to donate and hand deliver 2,400 masks to Keck Hospital of USC and many other clinics.

Taylor said, “We delivered surgical masks to seven clinics. We are very thankful for all that they do.” To the health care workers, Taylor said, “Thank you for risking your lives and putting your health on the line to help other people. It really touches my heart.”

The sisters plan to continue to help any way they can, including more masks, more ball deliveries, and teaching even more children how to empower themselves and others.

6 Volunteer Vacation Ideas for Families — And Why You Should Book One

Volunteer Vacations and the DIY Loving Family

Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement Volunteering
Who It’s For: The Diy-Loving Family

Denise Jackson says her two daughters, 15 year-old Taylor and 10 year-old Jordyn, grew up volunteering in their community. But it was during a boring car ride, five years ago, when she tasked them with finding something creative to talk about with the rest of the family, that they had the idea of starting a charity.

The charity, Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement, combined the girl’s love of soccer with helping kids around the world who don’t even own a soccer ball. Before starting their own vacations, the girls hand-deliver indestructible soccer balls to needy children around the world.

“The first time we ever did a delivery, I was very nervous,” says Taylor. “I didn’t know what to expect.” So, to prepare themselves, the girls wrote a speech. “We didn’t want to say the wrong thing,” Taylor says, “We didn’t want to look like we were trying to be better than them.”

But as soon as the balls came out of their containers and the kids lined up to receive them, they all relaxed. “It was so fun because the kids were so good and some of them were even better than me and they hadn’t had any training!”

The Jackson girls fund their cause with donations and through their business SOAR Jewels™ by making and selling bracelets. Their efforts have broadened since they began distributing soccer balls and now include providing educational supplies and books to areas they visit that request them.

Taylor Bay Jackson & Jordyn Belle Jackson’s Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement Spotlight

One nonprofit organization that stands out is Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement. Taylor Bay Jackson, a Chaminade eighth-grader, has owned this organization for four years. Taylor is a passionate soccer player who shares her love of soccer with other children around the world. With the help of her sister, Jordyn, they work as a team to hand deliver soccer balls to children in foster homes, underfunded soccer centers and schools, as well as government-run homes around the world. To fund the cost of delivering soccer balls and their transportation, Taylor and Jordyn created and own a jewelry line called Soar Jewels. Taylor brought her creative talent to our middle school and turned it into a lunchtime club which met once a month to bead bracelets. Her club was a huge success — all the beaded bracelets sold out at the Justice Fair. Taylor’s organization is an exemplary illustration of delivering good news to underprivileged institutions. In fact, the entire Justice Fair is good news.

Our students worked hard to deliver good news to other students, educators, and parents with the items that they sold for their charities, and within three lunchtime periods, all 25 groups raised a total amount of $12,897! The Justice Fair culminated in a celebration of Mass honoring the work of our students and their nonprofit organizations as a sign of good news.

SOARING SAMARITANS YOUTH MOVEMENT (SSYM) HOSTS UCLA’S FIRST GALA TO BENEFIT MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SOCCER IN THEIR PROGRAM HISTORY
We continue to break new ground for students, UCLA Athletics, and underfunded athletic programs.  SSYM hosted the first and largest fundraiser in program history of UCLA Men and Women’s Soccer (called ONE GOAL)!  We developed the first Gala ever done for the soccer program to launch the movement toward raising $10 million dollars for a desperately needed soccer stdium. The current field is built in the middle of the school’s track field called Drake Stadium.  The location has the bare bone amenities and plastic Pop Up tents for “home” and “away” half-time team meetings.  Denise G. Jackson, LUTCF who is the mother to Taylor Jackson & Jordyn Jackson is an active alumni, along with 7 Bruins in their father, Chris Jackson’s immediate family.  Please consider supporting Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement’s work through donations and soccer balls.  Our aid to education, athletic programs, and children is certain to be carefully researched to go where it will truly impact underfunded youth and programs in need!
